CEUs

Continuing Education Credits

Forms will be available to be submitted through conference organizers for attendance of the live-streamed sessions for General and Nursing CEUs.  More instructions on how to apply for General and Nursing CEUs are summarized below.

General:

The 2020 virtual MRASH course was approved for 3 hours/0.3 CEUs per day for attending the full live-streamed program on a single day or 12 hours/1.20 CEUs for attending the full live-streamed program all 4 days of the conference streaming.  Those wishing general CEUs must fill out this form and email it to gayle-olson@uiowa.edu by December 10, 2020.  It is a fillable pdf form.  Use Program Title: MRASH 2020 and Program Code: 20 321 01.  People wishing general CEUs must use the Zoom chat box to sign in at the beginning of each session and sign out at the end of each session.

Nursing:

The University of Iowa College of Nursing is IBON provider number #1. With full time attendance, 3.0 contact hours will awarded each day to a maximum of 12 for attending all live-streamed presentations.  People wishing nursing CEUs must use the Zoom chat box to sign in at the beginning of each session and sign out at the end of each session.  Nurses who wish to earn CEUs must complete a post-conference Qualtrics survey by December 10, 2020.    Data from the survey will be summarized and submitted to the University of Iowa College of Nursing along with attendance confirmation.

Some certified professionals can request continuing education credits through their own credentialing organization. These DO NOT need to be submitted to conference organizers. For example:

Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES):

This program qualifies for Category II Continuing Education Contact Hours (CECH).  Up to 30 of the 75 CHEC required every five years can be Category II hours.  For more details and application instructions, consult the webpage for Continuing Education Requirements for CHES.

Certified Safety Professional:

According to the BCSP Recertification Guide, since MRASH offers nursing and general CEU credits that comply with national standards for continuing education courses established by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) you should be able to submit Category 6 points toward recertification. Only courses and conferences complying with IACET standards of one CEU equal to ten hours of instruction can award continuing education units (CEUs). One CEU equals one recertification point for students and instructors.  Check page 13 Category 6 of the Recertification Guide for more details.  If you need confirmation of attendance, please contact Gayle Olson.  Alternatively, you may be able to submit a General CEU certificate.

Industrial Hygiene:

Industrial Hygiene Certification Maintenance (CM) points are available. This handout may be helpful in determining how many points can be earned.  If you need confirmation of attendance, please contact Gayle Olson.  For more details on the various CM categories and how to apply, see the website of the American Board of Industrial Hygiene.

Social Work:

On October 5, 2005, the Iowa Board of Social Work Examiners changed the rules of social work CEUs. The Board no longer approves continuing education sponsors, and now directs its licenses to review the continuing education criteria established in the rules. Social work CEUs will be offered, but it is up to the participant to determine if this program is deemed appropriate for your profession. If you have questions, please contact the Iowa Board of Social Work Examiners.
