Ralph Altmaier, MS, University of Iowa; Brandi Janssen, PhD, University of Iowa
Ralph Altmaier farmed in rural Johnson County Iowa for 40 years growing corn soybeans, winter wheat, beef cattle and swine. For the last ten years he has worked for Iowa’s Center for Agricultural Safety and Health as a farm safety expert. His Masters degree is in Industrial Hygiene.

I-CASH designates funds for community grants targeted at the prevention of farm-related injury and illness in young people and their families. Each year, I-CASH distributes $5000 among projects that involve youth in the planning and delivery of agricultural safety and wellness messages. In the past 23 years, 171 grants have been awarded to 97 Iowa youth organizations totaling over $150,000.
