Cherokee County Farm Bureau, Cherokee
Educational outreach to fourth grade students focusing on improving their understanding of on-farm hazards. Topics include chemical safety and comprehensive tractor safety which will address SMV emblems, moving parts, falls, PTO and hydraulic safety.
Clayton County Extension and Outreach, Elkader
Safety Day field trip for all Clayton County 4th graders at the county fairgrounds. Youth from five area schools will circulate through sessions on safety topics, including propane gas safety, ATV safety, fire safety, electrical safety, animal safety, and PTO safety.
Davis-Rodgers FFA Chapter, Shenandoah
Elementary students will construct a “hidden hazards on the farm” display to be shared with the rest of the school and at the county fair.
Ida County Farm Bureau, Ida Grove
Partnership with local fire department, sheriff’s department, Northwest REC, Ida County Extension, and the local FFA Chapters to host a farm safety event focusing on animal safety, chemical safety, equipment safety, anhydrous warnings and caution, grain bin safety, and ATV safety.
Miles Mavericks 4-H Club, Maquoketa
Purchase and distribute signs warning of dangerous manure pit gases. Youth will distribute the signs to producers with manure pits and develop educational displays with our Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Beef and Forage Specialist and the Ag Engineer Specialist.
Mitchell County 4-H, Osage
Educational outreach to 4th grade students; high school students will plan the material, demonstrations and activities, as well as deliver the information in 11 minute sessions focusing on ATV and lawn mower safety.
Nemaha 4-H Club, Nemaha
Animal handling and syringe safety display for presentations the local County Fair’s Ag Learning Barn. The multi-purpose display will be used for educational presentations, display at events, or use it as a backdrop for resource and product distribution.
Poweshiek County Extension and Outreach, Montezuma
An Ag Safety Day will be held at the Poweshiek County Fiargrounds. The day is organized with 10 safety stations that last 15 minutes. Topics include fire safety, animal safety, and ATV and lawnmower safety.
Washington County 4-H and Extension, Washington
“Stay Safe, Take a Break” targets farmers/farm families in the fall during the busy and long hours of the harvest season. The 4-H County Council youth select, purchase, collect and deliver bags full of goodies to farmers in the fields during harvest season to promote safety and encourage farmers to take a break.
Wright County Farm Bureau, Clarion
Safety Day Camp for 3rd graders focusing on how to call 9-1-1, safety around large equipment, and chemical safety.
