Combine and tractor fires are events that can be extremely dangerous, as well as cause severe damage to farm equipment. I-CASH developed Combine and Fire Safety information cards intended to help farmers know the proper steps to prevent a combine or tractor fire and how to be prepared and react if a fire occurs.
Changing weather, like more intense and frequent drought conditions, can elevate the risk of equipment catching fire. New fire risks also become present as farming equipment grows bigger and materials change, such more parts being made of flammable synthetic materials.
In the Fall of 2023, I-CASH distributed these combine and tractor fire safety cards to every county in Iowa. Along with the cards, counties received fire extinguisher maintenance log stickers so that farmers would be able to keep track of the fire extinguisher mounted on their equipment and know when it is time to check pressure and replace.
