The Spring 2024 seasonal campaign focuses on an issue that is prevalent across the state of Iowa. Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, radioactive gas that is produced from the decay of naturally occurring uranium in the soil. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) surveys in Iowa have found that 7 in 10 homes contain radon concentrations above the EPA’s action level. IHHS has created the Radon & You packet and has provided material that can help inform Iowa families about the dangers of radon and how to test for and mitigate radon in their homes.
